William grew up in Allentown with a loving family, who encouraged him when he decided to join the Army at just 18. While he was deployed in Vietnam, he prayed for safety.

Shawn was only 17 when his mother died of alcoholism. “I watched her drink herself to death,” he says.
“The Mission turned my life completely around.”
Gary was happily married with three sons and a good job. “I thought I had a perfect life,” he says.
“I asked God… ‘Why did you take my mother away?'”
William took care of his mother every day for 16 years.
