Donors Stock the Shelves

(ALLENTOWN, PA) – The Allentown Rescue Mission thanks the community and its faithful supporters for  the outpouring of donations during its 23rd annual Thanks for Giving Food & Supplies Drive. The multi day event collected 66, 238 lbs. of food and cleaning supplies, an increase of 10% over the prior year.  New this year, the Mission instituted a successful meal match campaign, in addition to food and supplies collected, to provide its men with healthy and nutritious meals.

“Reports from December 2023 showed that Pennsylvania ranked #1 in the U.S. for inflation, so receiving  10% more in weighed food and supplies over 2022 was a huge success because of our loyal supporters!  Thank you for your generosity,” declared Lori Novak, Development Manager for the Allentown Rescue  Mission.

The donations received fed guests over the holidays, restocked Mission shelves for the upcoming year, and helped to offset higher grocery costs and higher demand. The Allentown Rescue Mission has seen  an increase in the number of meals it serves because many men need to stay longer due to the rise in  rent costs and living expenses.

Thank you to everyone who chose to support the food and supplies drive. Every donation helps the  Allentown Rescue Mission achieve its mission to Rescue, Rehabilitate, and Restore homeless men.

The Allentown Rescue Mission, a 501c3, 123 bed non-profit homeless shelter has been providing shelter  for homeless men since 1900. In addition to emergency shelter services (365 days a year), the Allentown  Rescue Mission offers a residential life skills program, and transitional employment on the Clean Team Workforce that’s available for hire to the community. The Clean Team Workforce pays the men above  PA state minimum wage– helping them save a nest egg to transition back into the community. In a  typical year, the Allentown Rescue Mission provides shelter services for over 946 men per year, and  serves over 42,000 meals a year to men in need.
