Robert L. grew up in a dysfunctional home marked by alcoholism and abandonment. At a young age, Robert lost his brother in a car accident. To deal with the pain, he turned to drinking and smoking weed. Then after his mom passed away in 2021, Robert elevated his drug use to methamphetamines. With nowhere to go and no one to turn to, he came to the Allentown Rescue Mission after a nearly fatal overdose. He resided in the Emergency Shelter for three weeks but was referred to a drug rehabilitation facility. After his rehab, Robert returned to the Allentown Rescue Mission.
During his time in the Transformation Program, Robert enjoyed learning about the Bible, going to church, and being close to God. He said, “The program changed my life.” He believes that he is now truly saved.
Robert has also reconnected with his son. They spend time together on the weekends and Robert shares with him teachings from the Bible. He is extremely grateful for the second chance with his son and says, “our relationship is stronger than it was before.”
Now that Robert has graduated from the Transformation Program, he would like to earn his GED and forklift certificate while working for the Clean Team Workforce. He hopes to save money and find a place to live in Bethlehem. A bucket list item for Robert would be to visit Greece.
