Transformation Program Graduate – Custis C.

Custis C. grew up in a stable home. When he left home at 15 years old, he got caught up in selling drugs. Then, his brother was murdered and Custis began self-medicating with drugs to ease his pain. Eventually, he went to jail because of his drug involvement.

After time to reflect on his life, Custis wasn’t happy and said, “there was something missing.” He received treatment at a mental hospital after being released from prison and then came to the Allentown Rescue Mission.

When he arrived at the Mission, Custis took medication for anxiety and depression. He enrolled in the Transformation Program and was exposed to the word of God. Custis realized that a lot of what went wrong in his life was related to his pride and he needed to work on his “I want” and “I will” mentality. After finding a relationship with God, Custis began to feel different, mentally and physically, and now he’s been able to reduce his anxiety medication.

Custis is currently applying for jobs. He noted that he will be so happy the day he can walk into the social security office and tell them that he no longer needs SSI money because he has a job. He has also reconnected with family and is encouraging them to read the Bible and attend church.
