Providing Men with the Same Hope He Received Fifteen Years Ago

The Allentown Rescue Mission proudly announces the promotion of David Zinni from Transformation Program Coordinator to Transformation Program Manager. In his new role, David, a former client of the Allentown Rescue Mission, will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the eight-week Transformation Program. As part of the program, he will teach life-skill and Bible classes to homeless men, provide life coaching to the men, and connect the men with local resources. David will also share with the men help and hope that he received first-hand walking with the Lord and graduating from the Transformation Program at the Allentown Rescue Mission.

David came to the Allentown Rescue Mission August 1, 2006, on the brink of death. He failed out of high school and had been homeless for two years due to substance abuse. What started as a desire to have fun quickly evolved into an addiction. As a result of the dependency, David burned all his bridges with family and loved ones. He had nowhere to turn until he found the Allentown Rescue Mission.

At the Allentown Rescue Mission, David received the help he needed. He became a follower of Jesus Christ and found the strength and peace he needed to persevere. Only then was he able to process the root causes and fallout of his addiction. After graduating from the Transformation Program, David received his GED, graduated from Lehigh Carbon Community College, and accepted a job working in the Emergency Shelter of the Allentown Rescue Mission as a Program Associate in 2011, five years after his stay at the shelter.

David started his career at the Allentown Rescue Mission at a young age, with little Human Services experience. But over the years, Management has seen tremendous growth and potential in David. Cheryl Allen, Administrative and Human Resource Manager, said, “David is the perfect leader for the Transformation Program because he is an energized employee who believes in the mission and understands how to achieve it. Working hard for something you love is called passion, and David loves helping these men achieve success in their lives and in their community.”

The Allentown Rescue Mission congratulates David on his success and healing. The men who join the Transformation Program are blessed to have David working so hard to help them change their lives.
