November 16th-24th is National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week

November 16th-24th is National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.  It occurs the week before Thanksgiving when most of us are looking forward to our national holiday where we share a meal in a warm house with those we care about.  It is a time to celebrate, and a time to give thanks.  It is also a great time to think about the less fortunate, and consider how we can help them.

·         43.1 million Americans live below the poverty level

·         549,000 Americans are homeless on a typical night

·         42 million Americans are at risk of suffering from hunger

We will be serving a Thanksgiving meal at the Allentown Rescue Mission, and here are some facts about us:

·         926 men came to the shelter in 2018 to sleep in one of our 123 beds

·         We fed them 55,191 meals

·         47 of these men graduated from our Transformation Program

We accomplished this with a staff of 29, and countless volunteers.  There are many ways to help the Mission provide food and shelter to the hundreds of guests we have every year.  Here are some helpful links:

Our homepage has links for donating and volunteer opportunities.

We have begun our Thanks for Giving food and supply drive as well.

You can also designate the Allentown Rescue Mission as your charity of choice when you shop on Amazon.com via Amazon Smile.  It costs you nothing, and Amazon provides us with a donation because you shopped using the Amazon Smile link.

Thank you so much, and please remember that no donation is insignificant.
