ANTHONY HAS JOY AND NEW LIFE, THANKS TO YOU!

Anthony Holiday Newsletter Story 2022

Anthony had always worked physically demanding jobs in spite of his chronic pain. “I’d been injured in two car accidents and had back and leg pain, but I fought through it.”

Eventually, however, the pain grew too severe for him to continue. He had to find less taxing work and had just begun driving a cab when there was an economic downturn. Business slowed and his income dropped. Then his car broke down and he couldn’t get to work. “I had to quit my job and ended up getting evicted.”

Anthony stayed with a friend for a while and looked for work, but to no avail. Then he had to relocate and he wound up homeless, sleeping outside in the cold. It took a heavy toll on his physical and mental health. “I’d lost everything. I had no money. I was starving and so depressed.”

That’s when he turned to the Allentown Rescue Mission for help. “It felt so good to be in a safe, warm place with hot meals, served by people who care.”

With his physical needs met, Anthony was able to focus on his spiritual growth and emotional healing. Through Bible studies, faith-based classes and Christian guidance, his faith has grown strong, and he’s begun to process his trauma. “I was spiritually dead when I got here. But I learned about God and His Word and my spirit awakened.”

“They helped me heal physically, mentally and spiritually.”

His health is improving every day and he’s looking forward to going back to work in the near future. In the meantime, he volunteers in our kitchen, cooking and serving meals with the same kind of care he received when he first came to the Allentown Rescue Mission.

Anthony is excited to celebrate the restored hope he has been given this Christmas – and wants YOU to know just how grateful he is. “The Allentown Rescue Mission gave me all the support and resources I needed. It changed my life.”

Anthony’s story is featured in the Holiday 2022 edition of Tidings.
