John shares how your support changed his life!
John was a hardworking man who made a good living as a truck driver. Then the pandemic hit and business slowed down. “I had money saved, so I figured I’d take a break from work and wait until things returned to normal,” he says.
While he was on hiatus, John helped a sick friend with his mortgage and expenses. It ate through much of John’s savings and he realized that he needed to cut his vacation short. But before he could return to work, he fell ill. “I was sick for over a year,” he says.
John lost his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and burned through the rest of his savings. He was facing eviction when he finally reached out for help. “I went to the hospital and found out that I have COPD,” he says. “That day, I came to the Allentown Rescue Mission.”
When he arrived, we made sure John had a comfortable bed, nutritious meals and access to the medical care he needed at our DeSales Clinic. As his health improved, John was able to focus on his spiritual growth through our Transformation Program’s Bible studies and faith-based classes. “I’m closer with the Lord than I’ve ever been before,” he says.
John graduated from the program and is now on our Clean Team, working and saving money to get his CDL reinstated. It’s a big expense, so we’re helping him cover the cost. “They’re paying 80 percent,” John says. “I feel so blessed.”
