Earth Day Bag Challenge Winners Revealed

The Allentown Rescue Mission’s Clean Team Workforce announced the winners of its first annual Earth Day Bag Challenge.  The Clean Team Workforce, along with representatives from the City of Allentown, disclosed the winning team at a ceremony in Arts Park.

In observance of Earth Day 2022, the Clean Team Workforce hoped to raise awareness about keeping the environment clean by inviting its employees to participate in a “Bag Challenge” during the month of April. The Clean Team Workforce picks up litter daily in downtown Allentown under contract by the City of Allentown. Men who participated in the contest competed to see who could fill the most trash and recycling bags on their regular work routes in the downtown area.

Participants were divided into two teams to compete in the contest. The Allentown Rescue Mission tracked the number of bags each team collected and the group with the most bags at the end of April was announced at the ceremony.

The winning team consisted of four Clean Team Workforce employees: John R., Charles S., David S, and Lee T. They collected 192 bags of trash and 125 bags of recycling. Together, both teams did a remarkable job removing 345 bags of trash and 217 bags of recycling from the streets of Allentown throughout the month of April.

Congratulations to the winners! They received trophies made from recycled bottles and a gift card to an eatery of their choice.
