Christmas Time Offers the Opportunity to Share Hope and Healing

Christmas time at the Allentown Rescue Mission offers the opportunity to share with our men the message of hope and healing that is found in the greatest gift ever given, Jesus Christ. This message is conveyed in both word and deed, as we aim to display the love of Christ to the men in our care every day, but especially at a time of year that tends to be difficult for them. Being separated from loved ones or reflecting on days gone by and losses that have occurred can cause heartache and despair. However, to reflect on Jesus and all that his life, death, and resurrection mean for mankind is the remedy to the despair and discouragement that can easily plague our residents.

The men participated in decorating our chapel and front lobby while listening to music and enjoying each other’s company. On the Thursday before Christmas, our Transformation Program conducted a Christmas-themed chapel service, complete with singing Christmas hymns and a message focusing on the significance of what knowing the Lord means for believers. On Christmas Eve, thanks to the generosity of our wonderful supporters, gifts were handed out to every man residing at the Allentown Rescue Mission. On Christmas night, a staff member came in and conducted chapel with his family and ministered to the men.

It was a blessed Christmas for both staff and clients. We want to sincerely thank all who have contributed to the work of the Allentown Rescue Mission in helping homeless men transform their lives, one day at a time.
