The Allentown Rescue Mission recognizes David Garcia for his dedication to healing and helping others. This June, David will celebrate 32 years working for the Allentown Rescue Mission. He not only mentors the men in the Emergency Shelter, he also takes his encouragement and music to local nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, and senior living communities.
David started working for the Allentown Rescue Mission in 1989 as a Food Service Supervisor. He has performed multiple roles over the years and currently works as a part-time Program Associate in the Emergency Shelter. In his current position, David conducts the initial screening process to determine shelter eligibility, mentors the men, coordinates case management, and provides transportation to the clients’ appointments. He also plays the guitar and sings for the men during Bible study, graduation ceremonies, and holiday services.
Working at the Allentown Rescue Mission allows David to incorporate his passion for music with his love for helping others. Additionally, David has used his gift of music to cheer up those in need in places such as ManorCare, Lutheran Manor, and Phoebe Nursing Home. During his visits, David provides the audience with musical enjoyment generally followed by a prayer. David visits men from the Allentown Rescue Mission who receive rehabilitation at the outside facilities and also plays for other residents of the centers who want to enjoy his music.
The message David conveys to others is universal, “There are always struggles in life. Trust the Lord through the process. He will never leave you.”
