Brandon’s Story

Brandon grew up seeing his father use drugs, and it made him curious. “My dad was always smoking marijuana in his room. So, I came to the conclusion that if it’s okay for Dad, I can do it too.”

Brandon started using at age 9, then turned to harder drugs and alcohol to try to fill the void inside. Years later, he finally found the strength to overcome his addiction through rehab, but his life was still a mess.

“I was a struggling, recovering addict. I got to a point in my life where everything I could think of was going wrong even though I wasn’t using. I lost apartments, friends and even family.”

But instead of turning to drugs again, thankfully Brandon called a local hospital and said he was thinking about using again. That’s when they referred him to the Mission.

The day Brandon walked into the Allentown Rescue Mission, his entire outlook changed.

“When you come inside and talk to people, the kind of love you get is unconditional. This place is a blessing.”

As a 27-year-old, Brandon entered our Christian Living Program, and discovered the practical and spiritual tools he needed to rebuild his life. This 16-week program helped him strengthen his faith in the Lord through Bible study and chapel services.

“They helped me fill the void that I had in my heart – not with drugs, but with God.”

He also learned valuable life skills to better deal with issues such as anger, finances, job placement and more.

“I work on the Clean Team and am in the process of getting back on my feet. The feeling is overwhelming – that I’m finally moving in the right direction.”

Today, he’s graduated from the program, hopes to get his own apartment and go back to work as a chef.

Because of your generosity, Brandon’s heart has been filled with thanksgiving… and God’s love! “This has definitely been a learning experience and a blessing. Not only getting closer with the Lord, but learning how to be humble.”
