“It can work for you; if you believe in God and don’t mind working hard, the people there will help you.” These were the words Kevin heard from his father before coming to the Allentown Rescue Mission. Around seven years ago, Kevin’s father’s battle with addiction brought him to our doors. Here, he joined the Transformation Program and then the Clean Team Workforce. With our help, he was able to get back on his feet and stay sober. Kevin remembers talking to his father while he was in our shelter, “It was what he needed, and I was proud of him because I saw that he was finally happy.”
Kevin has also battled with addiction like his father, but he didn’t imagine he would end up in a shelter. Still, he remembered his dad’s experience, and after speaking with him, he decided the best thing he could do was go through the program that had transformed his dad’s life.
After graduating from the Transformation Program, Kevin agrees with his father. “I’ve learned to open my mind, allow God into my life, and learned to be grateful and responsible.”
