When Kevin began looking for a place where he could really change his life, he knew it had to be a Christian program, and the Allentown Rescue Mission was at the top of the list!
“I grew up in a middle class family and went to school, but dropped out and joined a gang in the 10th grade. My life was on the streets… drugs, jail time… I had no real purpose. It took me a long time to break free of that lifestyle.”
Though he had stopped using drugs, Kevin was still drinking, and hanging out in neighborhoods where violence was an everyday occurrence.
“A guy jumped out of a car with a sawed-off shotgun and pointed it at the crowd. You could hear the pellets hitting against people’s houses and glass busting. I don’t know how, but nobody got hurt...that was my wakeup call!”
Shortly after Kevin came to our Gateway Shelter, interviews were being done for the Christian Living Program. He applied and was accepted!
“This is a brand new world here,” Kevin says. “People ask me about the program and I tell them to come if they’re ready to truly change. But you have to put the work in.”
“The Mission’s work changes lives,” Kevin says. “If you stay faithful, it sets you in the right direction and you don’t have to look back.”
