Christian Living and Values Transitional Program

Ending Homelessness One Person at a Time
The Christian Living and Values Transitional Program is a Christ-centered, residential program for the restoration of homeless men to God and the community. CL&VTP offers the Good News about Jesus Christ and spiritual growth opportunities, transitional housing and housing assistance, meals and clothing, Life Skills Education, and referrals to other service providers.

The first six weeks of CL&VTP include full days of classes and group sessions in Life Skills Education. Students attend morning devotions, evening chapel, and daily Bible study groups. Our full-time chaplain can provide individual pastoral counseling sessions.

Clients develop healthy coping skills and receive training for anger management, conflict resolution, communication skills and healing damaged emotions. They receive assistance with resume writing, basic computer skills, interview techniques, and tools that will help them find and keep a job.

Students also participate in money management and budgeting classes to prepare them for a responsible, debt-free life. They will open their own custodial accounts with the Mission supervised by their counselors.

In addition, clients receive basic information about drug and alcohol issues and receive suitable resources for their needs. Students also learn about understanding a lease, vocational training, educational opportunities, time management, and how to stop smoking.

Each program participant has an assigned staff member to assist and coach him in accessing services from outside service providers as needed. Clients with medical concerns may receive services on-site through Sacred Heart Hospital’s Parish Nursing Program and DeSales University’s Free Clinic. They may receive mental health services through professional psychiatric services provided on-site.

Clients receive assistance in their restoration to the community. Clients must become involved with a church of their choice for spiritual growth, accountability and support, and must attend worship services weekly. Clients are encouraged to develop healthy, godly relationships with others in the community.

Clients are encouraged to re-establish communication with family members to rebuild relationships, when appropriate. In addition, clients may receive assistance in obtaining and maintaining suitable housing. The Mission owns and operates housing units that are sometimes available for successful Mission graduates to rent.

Admission Procedure: The CLV & TP requires a commitment to change, submission, and discipline. Most of the men enrolled come from those screened through our Emergency Shelter. Others come as successful graduates of our drug and alcohol treatment program: Alpha-Omega Recovery Program. We also accept self-referrals and referrals from outside agencies. Call or e-mail: 610-740-5500. In 2007 the program served 89 individuals with a success rate of 79%.

Wheels of Time Street Rod Association

One of the many loyal supporters of the Allentown Rescue Mission is the Wheels of Time Street Rod Assoc. It all began 30 years ago when 12 young men started a car club specifically dedicated to the hobby of street rodding. In 1979, the decision was made to hold annual car shows. In its 30 year history it has grown to be the largest show on the east coast run completely by volunteers. The organization makes donations to local charities such as the Allentown Rescue Mission, Good Shepherd Home, ARC Association, Bethany Children's Home and others. They also sponsor a scholarship program for young men and women pursuing further education in the automotive field.
